My name is Brandyn Joseph Metzko. I was born on July 8, 1981 in Claridon, Ohio to Gwen Marie Metzko and Joseph Eugene Metzko. I have three younger brothers. Brian is twenty-four years old, Michael is twenty years old, and Luke is seven. I recently became an uncle when Brian and his wife Aimee had their first child, Vincent.
My parents and I moved often throughout my early childhood, settling in West Farmington, Ohio when I was twelve. I had just begun to play the flute and practiced for several hours each day as I didn’t yet know anyone in our new hometown. I did very well at school, and began attending college when I was 16 at Kent State University. I completed two years of liberal arts study there.
When I was eighteen I decided to take a break from college in order to get life experience. I took a greyhound bus to Hollywood, California, and moved into a small apartment with an aspiring teenaged actor who I had become acquainted with online. I frequently visited San Francisco, and enjoyed the city so much that I moved there two years later. During this time I had a number of odd jobs, and began to teach private music (I had been playing flute for over six years, and also learned to play saxophone and clarinet.)
After another year or so in San Francisco, I returned to northeast Ohio to complete my first undergraduate degree in music at Cleveland State University. In May 2006 I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and then returned to San Francisco. A romantic interest brought me to Palm Springs, California for a few months. The spark was short-lived, however, and jobs were scarce, triggering a reevaluation of my career and location.
Last week I returned to Ohio and I have now begun my second undergraduate degree at the University of Phoenix Online. I am enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology: Software Engineering program, and am excited about the prospect of a new career. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that I will face in the future phases of my life.
